Keen to be lean
I am a mother of two teenage girls and work full time sitting on my bottom. I have a food addiction and don't just stop at one of anything so need help training myself to start doing that. I also hate exercise and practically need dragged out to do any. I 'm hoping with the support at the Hundy Club I might be able to start changing these things.
My goals for the week... I'm going to try to have at least one vegetable with my evening meal every night this week. I don't eat vegetables very often so this will be quite a challenge for me.
What benefits have I received so far from being in the Hundy Club.... It was great just being there with so many people in the same situation as myself and hearing all the different things they also know they are doing wrong and need help with. It will be nice having people in the same situation all exercising together and not feeling like I have to rush because the other people are all so much fitter than myself. It was interesting hearing how to judge portion sizes correctly and I'm sure that will help heaps.

Only 2 b slim 4 me
I am a 38 year old step mum of a Teenage mum. I work full time and enjoy exercising. My eating habits have always let me down, I just love food.
This week I feel I have hit a brick wall and just want to give up. I have a friend in our Hundy Club that is inspirational to me and he drives me to keep on trucking on! My down falls this week have been overeating and then I feel bad after it. I would like to challenge my mind set that I had for years to carry on... why do I feel like it is going to be an uphill battle that I can never win??
I am one of the smaller people in my group, but this does not mean I have always been like this. I have had to work at my weight, always, and get to a stage where I just give up. I am hoping that Hundy Club will give me the courage to carry on.

JBG
Hi, I'm a 46 year old female. I work full-time in a sedentary position and have expanded far too much for my liking. I have my first grand-child due to arrive early April and need lose weight so I don't get puffed pushing the pram or bending over his cot!!
I joined the Hundy Club in the 2nd week and that weeks nutrition was on health eating (as usual) and Lee had a wonderful selection of foods to try. My goal is to read food labels before buying it to keep away from butter and white bread. It'll be hard, but oh so worth it!
Our group is very friendly, they love a good laugh (usually at their own expense) and have a lot of knowledge to share. The nutrition nights are very worthwhile attending. The main benefit from being in the Hundy Club has been staying off the couch every night and hauling my butt off for a walk!!
JBG - 23/03/09
At this stage of the Hundy Club I am feeling much better about my food choices and find that healthier choices do actually taste good!!
My goals for this week (and every other week) are to eat healthier, move more and enjoy life. I have not exercised for a week now due to bursitis in my hip (and my Dr telling me to rest it) and I am missing my walks.
I find I'm feeling more positive and have more energy 'Thanks Hundy Club!!!

My goal for this week is to manage my time so that I can fit my exercise in. Busy busy keeps my mind off food... for now!

Dingles
I am generally a happy person and are very accepting of others but very hard on opinions of myself. I am hoping that with the support of the members of the Hundy Club I will be able to increase my fitness and health levels so that I can be proud of myself and my accomplishments.
My first goal is to cut back on the caffeine and drink water instead. I would also like to get out walking on the days I don't attend the Hundy Club sessions.
I have been very appreciative of the support and comradery of the other members of the Hundy Club. Their determination spurs me along and I want to succeed by helping them too. The information sessions make me think about what I am doing and even though I slip up I am thinking more about things.
Dingles
A few weeks ago when I thought of Hundy Club ending I was worried and scared, thinking I would not be able to have the strength to keep uo with the exercise and healthy eating but the more I have thrown myself into the program the more confidence I have gained that I will do okay after Hundy Club. The friends I have met within the group will be friends I hope to have contact for a long time yet.
The biggest challenge for me was to commit to and believe in myself. I had tried many diets and they had failed but with the length of the program I was able to establish better eating and exercise patterns to the point they have become second nature now.
I would highly recommend this to others. Initially it seems like a huge commitment if you intend to do it properly but after time you will realise it is something you will be very grateful for having the opportunity to be a part of.
The goals I have set myself after Hundy Club are to continue on my journey to becoming a stronger healthy person and keep in touch with my Hundy buddies. I have met some of the most genuine, caring and dedicated people in the club and I want to keep those people in my life. They have made my life a way more positive and productive one.

Wow I am so proud of myself for doing the City to Surf on Sunday. It was an amazing experience. I did the 12km walk in 2 hours and 20 minutes. Members of the Hundy Club were so supportive. Although the next day I felt a bit sore but it didn't stop me from going for a walk in the evening.
My goal is to cut down on protein and carbs and boost my vegetable and fruit intake. I find adding herbs and spices to salads and vegetables make them more yummy.
Well I can say that I am really enjoying my time in the Hundy Club everybody knows everybody, and we support each other with positive feedback and share our own experiences. Always look forward to Tuesday nights learning valuable info on nutrition.

Challenges have been exercise and the limit because of injuries I'm overcoming them by continuing low impact exercise.
No more excuses! Appetite for life allows a healthy mind therefore, healthy changes.
My goals are to continue to carry through my knowledge of food, reading/checking labels and exercise!
I recommend anyone that needs motivation, support and accountability, Hundy is for you!

BSG
I have lived in Otautahi for the past 9 years but are originally from a small town. I have 3 children, aged 19, 9 and 2 and have recently got married to my long time partner. My main reason for joining the Hundy Club was so that I would have more energy to spend more fun times with my tamariki.
I have been involved with the 'Hundy Club' for a few weeks now and have learnt so much about what to eat, how to shop and what to look for etc.
My goals for the week are to do more walking, even though I am not there for the Wednesday walking sessions due to whanau commitments I still make sure I do walk on Thursday nights and a long walk on Sunday's (over hills), so I am getting out there.
The benefits so far from being in the Hundy Club.... everything! Great team, great members, great support crew. The impact is that I am implementing things I learn on the Hundy Club for every day use in the home.
BSG
Its hard to believe that 5 months have passed so quickly and it is a shame that we cannot continue with this kaupapa in an official capacity. However in writing that we as a group have decided to continue on as a group with various activities e.g. Indoor netball, walking and keeping in contact and supporting each other.
My biggest challenge will be to keep the exercise up not just weekly games of netball but getting out and going for walks.
My goals after the Hundy Club is to keep in touch with everyone, keep the exercise and diet going.
I would highly recommed this to others, the team from Tahu FM and the CDHB have been very supportive and encouraging!! So a big shout out to all of them!!

Taua
I'm a 53 year old Taua (Grandmother) who is sick of feeling tired and listless. I work long hours to the point where my mahi takes precedence over my whanau and my own well being. I joined Hundy Club to get active and motivated to do something for myself. I consider that if I look after myself and become healthy... then all those around me will benefit too!
My current goal is to ensure that I participate in all the organised Hundy activities and if I can't attend... then I will endeavour to make it up at another time. Last Sunday, I was informed that the usual walk around the park had been changed to a HILL WALK!! "Aue taukiri e!" I thought. I told our exercise mentor (Marion) that "I dont think I'm ready for the HILLS!".... Well guess what I learnt? Don't under estimate yourself! We walked along the track leading up to the from the Sign of the Takahe to The Sign of the Kiwi, the veiw was stunnings and the Hundy Club camaraderies was a equally stunning!
The best thing about Hundy is the supportive non threatening nature of the kaupapa. The Appetite for Life programme run by Lee has been fantastic. I'm a dieter from way back.. you name it I've tried it! Initially I thought "there's nothing new I'm going to learn". However, I was wrong! Lee has taught us to eat sensibly and more importantly, she explains WHY!

NUTRITION
The Hundy Club meet every Tuesday evening to learn and get information regarding Nutrition:
The importance of breakfast:
People frequently skip breakfast they believe it is an easy way to cut back on kilojoules. Others believe if they eat breakfast they will end up eating more thant they need in a day. Studies have shown however, that eating breakfast actually helps with losing weight.
Some breakfast tips:
Plan enough time in the morning to sit down and enjoy a healthy breakfast
Plan what to have, make sure it is on hand and easy to prepare
Eat something as soon as possible; each day try eating a little earlier
Take something to work and eat as soon as possible
Eat less evening meal; this will improve hunger in the morning. Try eating nothing after 6pm
Eat breakfast until you are full.
